Konnichiwa, it’s Chika Sensei.

Today, I’m sharing a practice from my exclusive course.

This one’s for intermediate learners (JLPT N3)!

Can you choose the correct answer?

[Practice Question]

[Answer]

You’re going already? I wish you’d stay a bit longer.

“I wish (you/he/she) would…” or expresses regret or dissatisfaction about someone’s action or decision.

The speaker thinks:

“I wish you wouldn’t go yet.”

“It’s disappointing that you’re leaving now.”

Form:

Verb (conditional form) +

In this sentence, the speaker wants the other person to stay longer, but they’re actually going home.

That’s why いいのに is the correct choice.

Why are the other choices incorrect?

Means “it would be a good thing to do.”

Doesn’t express regret or wishing someone stayed.

Means “because it’s okay.”

Used when giving a reason, not suitable at the end of this sentence.

Means “because it’s a good thing.”

Also used when giving a reason, not suitable at the end of this sentence.

I hope this explanation helps! 😊
