[Answer]
確かに、今この商品は人気があるが、一時的な流行(2 にすぎない)。
It’s true that this product is popular right now, but it’s nothing more than a temporary trend.
〜にすぎない
= “nothing more than ~” / “merely ~” / “only ~”
It means “it is just X, and nothing more.”
In this sentence:
This product is popular,
→BUT… It is just 一時的な流行 (“a temporary trend”).
→It is not something special that will last forever.
This shows it’s not a big deal (“merely a trend”),
so にすぎない is the correct choice.
✖︎Other Choices:
1. 次第だ
= “depends on ~”
3. せざるをえない
= “have no choice but to ~”
4. であるわけではない
= “it’s not necessarily ~” (partial denial)
I hope this explanation helps! 😊
