[JLPT grammar] ”I will go alone.”, ひとりで行きます, Why use で?

Today I am going to share the Q&A quoted from my JLPT N3 course!

[Question]

Sensei,
ひとりで行きます, “I will go alone.”,
Why use で? I thought it was に.
Can you explain?

[My Reply]

This で indicates the number of actors.
We use it for action verbs.

e.g.
ひとり、ごはんを食(た)べます。
I (will) eat alone.

11人(にん)、サッカーをします。
Soccer is played with 11 players.

3人、旅行(りょこう)します。
The three of us will travel together.

If you want to indicate a destination, use に with 行く.

e.g.
日本(にほん)行きます。
I (will) go to Japan.

学校(がっこう)行きます。
I (will) go to school.

家族(かぞく)4人シンガポール行きます。
My family of four is going to Singapore.

I hope my answer helps you.😊

In the JLPT course, you can ask me any questions as much as you want.
I will teach you until you get it!
