[JLPT grammar] Thank you for doing…, 〜てくれてありがとう

Today I am going to share the homework correction quoted from my JLPT N4 course!
The student’s sentence is not correct. Can you find the mistake?

 

[Student’s sentence]  

先生、いつも日本語を教えて、ありがとうございます。

*せんせい、いつもにほんごをおしえて、ありがとうございます。

 



[My correction]  

先生、いつも日本語を教えてありがとうございます。
→先生、いつも日本語を教えてくれてありがとうございます。
Sensei, thank you for always teaching me Japanese.

〜てくれる can be used when thanking others for something.

〜てくれてありがとう(ございます)
×〜てありがとう(ございます)
Thank you for doing…

e.g.
手伝(てつだ)ってくれてありがとう(ございます)。
Thank you for helping me.

本(ほん)を 貸(か)してくれてありがとう(ございます)。
Thank you for lending me your book.

ケーキを買って来てくれてありがとう(ございます)。
Thank you for buying the cake for me.
