こんにちは、ちか先生です。

Konnichiwa, it’s Chika Sensei.

Today, I’m sharing a practice question for JLPT prep.

This one’s for intermediate learners (JLPT N3)!

Can you choose the correct answer?

[Practice Question]

夜空には数え(__)ほどの星がある。

*よぞらにはかぞえ(__)ほどのほしがある。

1 たてない

2 かけない

3 あげない

4 きれない

[Answer]

夜空には数え(4 きれない)ほどの星がある。

There are more stars in the night sky than you can count.

The key grammar here is:

〜きれない

= “can’t finish doing ~” / “too many to ~”

Structure:

Verb [masu-stem] + きれない

数えます (to count)

→ 数え + きれない

数えきれない

“can’t finish counting ~” / “too many to count”

There are so many stars that you cannot count them all.

So, きれない is the correct answer.

✖ Other Choices:

たてない / かけない / あげない

These words do not fit “数え”  in this sentence.

I hope this explanation helps! 😊
