[JLPT grammar] What’s the difference between どの and どれ?

Today I am going to share the Q&A quoted from my JLPT N5 course!

[Question]

せんせい、
どの is used when talking about objects while どれ is when your directly asking a person?

[My Reply]

No, どの and どれ have different grammar.

どの is always added to the beginning of nouns,
どの人(which person)、どの学校(which school)、どの本(which book)、どのペン(which pen), etc.
But, it cannot be used without nouns.

We can use どれ as a noun,
“どれがあなたのかばんですか。Which one is your bag?”
“どれを食べますか。Which one will you eat?”
“どれ? Which one?”

Simply, you should remember;
どの+[noun]
どれ+[particle]

I hope my answer helps you. 😊

In the JLPT course, you can ask me any questions as much as you want.
I will teach you until you get it!
